What is the angel kiss necklace in jewelry?

The micro-set angel kiss is one of the classic styles in gemstone jewelry for more than a century. The angel kiss design arises from the magic of the texture of the metal as it swirls around a round or brilliant cut stone. As a result, the jewelry design is dynamic and conveys the idea of vibrancy and fluidity.

The angel kiss design is commonly applied to stones such as diamond and moissanite, which are very similar to each other. We can find this style mainly in necklaces and rings, and it is associated with a symbolic meaning that we will discover later. So, why do we call it an "angel kiss"? The answer follows.

The concept behind this style comes from the pure and true emotion that comes from the idea of an angel kiss. The metal enveloping the gemstone symbolizes two hearts embracing, signifying the genuine union between two people who love each other. The diamond or moissanite in the center of the jewel represents the union between the two lovers. This makes the angel kiss a perfect design to give as a jewelry gift to that loved one.

Both the metal and the stone symbolize a heart in harmony. The metal intertwined with the stone also symbolizes the embrace between two angel wings, representing eternal love. The sparkle and shine of the round-cut stone perfectly complete a luxurious and romantic design. With an angel kiss necklace, our neck will be adorned in the most sophisticated way possible.

The symbolism of the angel kiss necklace

The angel kiss is known as a soft kiss that is given on the eyelids and signifies pure love, which is the one that can be given to a couple as well as to a child or a parent. It is used to gently awaken a person or also to show affection.

An angel kiss necklace is an ideal gift for a lover or even for a person we love very much, such as a daughter or mother. The angel kiss is the symbol of eternal and pure love.

The cut of the precious stones

One of the most determining factors for the brilliance of a gemstone is undoubtedly the cut. Its definition brings together two basic concepts: the shape and its quality, both in proportions and in the finish. For this reason, there are several types and qualities of cut that we will mention below.

Most popular gemstone cuts:

  • Brilliant or round cut stone.
  • Emerald cut stone
  • Princess cut stone
  • Marquise cut stone
  • Baguette Cut Stone
  • Oval-Cut Stone
  • Cushion Cut Stone
  • Antique cut stone

The most known, popular, and valued diamond is undoubtedly the brilliant cut. Although diamonds tend to be confused with brilliants, you should know that the brilliant is one of the many types of diamond cut. The brilliant cut is one of the most commonly used in jewelry, since it is the one that gives the most performance and benefits to the precious stone, enhancing its physical qualities. This type of cut allows all the light to enter the gemstone, coming out of the top and thus generating spectacular brilliance.

The objective of the brilliant, as its name indicates, is to present the maximum brilliance and dispersion of the diamond. To achieve this, this cut is made up of two main parts: the upper part, called the crown, and the lower part, called the butt. Both can be separated or joined by a girdle. The brilliant cut is characterized by being rounded and having 57 facets, i.e. flat surfaces that form the exterior, divided between the crown (33 facets) and the butt (24 facets), which allows light to enter through the angles and bring a unique brilliance and beauty to the gemstone.

The brilliant cut of the gemstones is the most representative. In addition to being the most traditional cut, it is also the one that sells the most, since it provides the best version of the gemstone and also adapts to lower qualities since the brilliance can mask the purity defects.

Round or brilliant cut

Currently, most laboratories only provide a cut grading for round brilliant diamonds, as it is more difficult to assess ideal proportions and determine specific guidelines for fancy stones.

The cut, often confused with the shape or cut of the gemstone, is the grading that determines how well the gemstone sparkles. It encapsulates Brilliance (white light reflecting from the top surface), Fire (flashes of color), and Scintillation (flashes of light).

The cut classification currently only applies to round stones, as they are technically easier to measure in terms of light output. Other shapes, such as Princess cuts, Cushion cuts, and Emerald shapes, do not have a cut grade on their certificate.

Cut grades range from Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Acceptable, and Poor. The grade takes into account several attributes of the gemstone that cannot be seen or measured under the untrained eye. An excellent cut grade will have the best light performance, influenced primarily by the relationship between the surface area of the slab and the height of the gemstone (not too high or too shallow/low).

It is very difficult to see the difference between an excellent cut gemstone and a very good one, as the direction of light is the same in both cut grades. Just make sure you're not on the "Deep/High" side or you'll end up with a gem that will look smaller than the actual carat weight.
